I am in need of a logo designer. However, I am not interested in working with a company, or individual who’s main goal is to pump out logos. I don’t just need any logo.

shouldn’t be taken for granted anymore.

If there is one thing we can all agree on, is that we obviously know more about our home world than any other planet in the universe. But despite all of mankind’s hard work to fully understand our own planet, there are still plenty of people who don’t know or don’t care to understand the whole truth about Earth. We all tend to say the world is shi…tty or filled with problems, but whenever we neglect to understand the world we live in or each other, we too, become part of that problem. We deny the strong evidence presented to us without investigating it for ourselves because our fallible ancestors said it can’t be true. And in return, we put our entire race in jeopardy, unequipped of the knowledge needed to survive any threats that might come our way. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The sooner we can all understand one another and the systematic knowledge we called, science, then the sooner our race can flourish beyond our wildest dreams and travel among the stars from one planet to the next as a spacefaring civilization. But for now, Earth is our home and we should all learn about it as much as we can if we are to move on to another world.

So without further adieu, here’s a bit of Earth science for you.

Before our planet came into existence, it was once the remnants of a star which exploded into a supernova. Over a large period of time, the stellar gas n’ dust particles compressed into a large spherical mass due to gravity. In case you didn’t know why planets and stars are round, well now you do. At first, it was a molting hot core since the particles were colliding at a high velocity. But since it wasn’t massive enough to become a sun, the outer layers cooled down and formed the Earth’s crust.

During the Earth’s early history, there was an abundance of gaseous molecules in the air. Some of it came from evaporating water or escaped from our planet’s blazing core through volcanoes. The rest were hydrogen and helium which the universe is filled with them. These gaseous molecules were kept from flying off to space because of Earth’s gravity. A lot of it escaped into space, but those left behind, gradually formed into our atmosphere.

Over the next four hundred million years, sunlight and lightning strike were breaking apart the early molecular atmosphere. The molecules landed on large bodies of water and began to spontaneously recombining into our earliest ancestors, the DNA. Through trial and error, the DNA instructed neighboring molecules to keep the enzymes and nucleotides that work while rooting out the mistakes. Together, they began developing organs to breathe air and convert food into energy. In order to stay alive, they produce limbs to crawl, climb trees and eventually walk. (NO, all this development didn’t just happen all at once. Over millions of years as I stated earlier) If you ask me, I guess its safe to say our DNA “learned” on its own or perhaps more appropriate to say that it thrived on survival instincts (like all known life forms). In order to survive more effectively, they need to work more efficiently, which is the purpose for developing a central system of thoughts, aka the brain. All the creatures we know and love, branched out from this organically developed blueprint, including us. Through trial and error, we evolved into the species we are today. This is why we are able to survive so well on Earth, not because we were made perfectly (we are still imperfect), but because we are descendants from living organisms that adapted so well. (Try observing some microbes and watch them change overtime in case you don’t believe me)

We have our young, four billion year old, fruitful planet to be thankful for consisting of all the right ingredients and conditions to create life. Earth (like many celestial objects) even produce its own magnetic field and atmosphere. Without a magnetic field, we wouldn’t be protected from solar flares, and no atmosphere means nothing to shield us from the sun’s harmful rays and other cosmic radiation. The formation of life would’ve been a far more difficult process. But of course, without the sun, life would be impossible. Our planet is about 93 million miles away from the sun, somewhere within the habitable zone. If Earth was too far or too close, somewhere outside the habitable zone like Pluto for instance, then life forms wouldn’t be able to receive the right amount of solar energy needed to survive or evolve.

Our world is not shitty as some people like to say it is. If it seems that way then it’s because we treat it like so. Excess burning of fossil fuel produces over 20 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. Our atmosphere absorbs about half of it. Carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases along with oxygen, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone. Greenhouse gases absorb the sun’s radiation and heats up the planet which is great and all, but too much of it and well now you have global warming. Weather conditions become more severe. There will be an increase in heat waves and cold waves. Yes, winter can get colder with global warming because the melting glaciers will lead to a redirection of the polar air currents. Places that never snowed before might start snowing now. You may also see an increase in earthquake, tsunami and volcanic activities because tectonic masses are being freed by the melting glaciers. You will also see more extreme droughts. Plant life will die out and that can cause people and animals alike to die out as well. People will be more exposed to diseases since heat is known to enhance the risk of tropical diseases in temperate zones. Starvation will be a more serious threat than it is now. These events have been occurring over the years, but some are unaware that global warming had a helping hand in them. I’m not here to frighten you, only to tell you like it is. Our world is becoming increasingly difficult to survive in and we only have ourselves to blame. These are the consequences we must pay for not learning all there is to know about our planet, but its not too late. We can help to prevent the worst that is yet to come. We can help by spreading the word, by stressing the seriousness of global warming and how science is our best bet if intend to survive and thrive beyond our reach.

There are so much more fascinating information about our world that we won’t be able to share with you in this article, which so happens to be a lot longer than I planned. For instance, I’m pretty sure some (or many) of you are unaware that the Earth’s core contains a large forest made of diamonds. But perhaps our sister page, Earth Story, have already mentioned it. Point is, our world is far more magnificent than most people give credit. Well it is the only known planet to contain marvelous tropical rainforest, glorious mountains, a huge variety of incredible living creatures that evolved with nature and just… well you get the idea.

Earth, the third planet from the sun, may be the only planet in our solar system to contain life and that alone makes it incredible. BUT… astronomers say its possible that our galaxy alone might have 500 million planets within a habitable zone. We’ve already spotted several of them. (shocking twist.. cut to end credits)

P.S. Whether or not we’re alone in this vast universe, Earth is still an awesome place and it clearly deserves our respect. Please remember that.
